We'll have a joyful mix of great new material with some Stillhouse Bottom Band favorites to get you on your feet, plus we have a wonderful guest joining us for a few tunes! Well known for her influential recordings with Hazel Dickens, she is also the founder, and for many years editor, of the Old Time Herald magazine. Alice and Mark have been busy working up some great honky-tonk numbers, and we're all excited to hear them. Message-ID: Dear Friends, The Stillhouse Bottom Band's big spring show is getting close, and we're excited to have two wonderful guests joining us as we close out the ArtsCenter's 30th Anniversary American Roots Series. Few people have honed our understanding of American Roots as John Cohen has. A founding member of the New Lost City Ramblers, he has exposed millions to the music of rural America, bringing an awareness of the beauty and relevance of traditional material to a largely urban audience. Also a noted documentarian, he photographed, filmed and recorded the joys and hardships of an American lifestyle that was fading fast. John has a great touch on the banjo, and we are honored that he is able to perform at our show and perhaps even share some of his slides. As mentioned earlier, Alice Gerrard will also be joining us. I've now had a chance to hear Alice and Mark on the front porch and they do sound great together. Cross your fingers for Alice's new CD to be in! Tickets for this show are $12; ArtsCenter Friends tickets are available at the box office for $10. There are a couple of ways to get your tickets: (1) Call the ArtsCenter box office at 919-929-2787. (2) Get one from the band -- we deliver until Thursday! Just reply to this email or give us a call (AC is 919-932-3037). I think this is going to be a wonderful show. We've got some great new material, a few old favorites, notable guests, and you in the audience propelling us on! That to me is a recipe for an exhilarating time, and I personally am excited about it! I hope to see you Saturday! Sincerely, Bobb Head, banjo & bass p.s. - Once again, we are raising money through the non-profit Starlight Foundation to buy tickets for those who seriously ill or otherwise cannot afford to come to the show. Plus, very special guests the Stillhouse Bottom Band. And... get a chance to win a creation from one of Chatham County's famous artisans. Also, this Friday, May 14th at 7pm, the Bynum Music Series presents world-renowned musicians, the WILLIAMSON BROTHERS BAND. They freqently share the stage with such greats as Ricky Scaggs, and they are one of the most top-notch talents in the Southeast. They're another band I never thought would ever consider playing "for a hat," but they've graciously offered to be a main staple of the series here and to join us on the cement stage for the second consecutive time. To hear some music samples and to learn more about them, please visit www.mandolincentral.com. It's all rain or shine (we move indoors when the weather gets nasty). Finally, I'm thrilled to announce that next Friday, we will be hosting the CHESTER SISTERS along with TOMMY EDWARDS & JIM COLLIER, who will sing songs from Ellen Bland's outstanding play, "Millworker." The performers are all members of the original cast. Bland will discuss the play and offer historical commentary to accompany the performance. The Bynum General Store offers a particularly poetic setting for this event since Bland's play partly draws upon stories she heard from former Bynum millworkers and close friends when she lived in Bynum several years ago. The play has met with stellar reviews and has repeatedly sold out performances. The Raleigh N&O named it one of the 10 best theatre events of 2003. Again, we need all the HELP we can muster with spreading the word about these events. So, bring everyone you know and/or tell everyone you know. Thanks so much for your continued support of the Bynum Community, the Bynum Music Series, and this wonderful area in which we are so blessed to live.
