From bhead at pobox.com Sat Jan 7 20:24:33 2006 From: bhead at pobox.com (Bobb Head) Date: Sat, 07 Jan 2006 15:24:33 -0500 Subject: [SBB] Weems Gerrard CD Release Party, Jan 13, Durham Message-ID: Dear Friends, It's been awhile, but we've got some great events coming up, plus our bandmate Mark Weems is hosting a CD release party with his honky-tonk outfit, the Weems Gerrard Band, and we thought you might like to know about them. Coming up first, we have the CD release party... "Foolish Lover's Waltz," the new CD by the Weems Gerrard Band is out and there'll be a CD release party Friday Jan. 13 at the G Loft off 9th St. next to George's Garage. It's going to be a mix of old-time and country music so be prepared to come listen, dance, have a big time! The music starts at 8 pm. $5 suggested donation to help pay the musicians. Our special old-time guests will be the East Carolina Catbirds. So-flatfoot or two-step-the floor is yours! Fast-forward to March, and the Stillhouse Bottom Band has several local events. On Friday, March 17, we are honored to play at the ArtsCenter (http://artscenterlive.org) in Carrboro as a part of their American Roots Music series. I can't make any promises about green beer, I can promise you a good time and think you should mark your calendars now. Also in March, on Saturday the 11th we are playing for a square dance at the Pleasant Green Community Center. When we played for this dance in the fall, we have a great time thanks to the energy and enthusiasm we could feel out on the dance floor. (http://www.ncsquares.com) Finally, and at this point tentatively, we have a set scheduled at the Cave in Chapel Hill, probably on March 2. Expect to hear more details once we get the details nailed down, but it should be fun, loose and a bit informal. It's good to be back up and running, with everyone healthy and raring to go. We hope to see you at one or more of these events, Sincerely, Bobb Head Stillhouse Bottom Band =================================================================== AC Bushnell Alan Julich --------- http://www.stillhousebottomband.com --------- Mark Weems Bobb Head =================================================================== From bhead at pobox.com Tue Feb 28 02:34:28 2006 From: bhead at pobox.com (Bobb Head) Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2006 21:34:28 -0500 Subject: [SBB] Upcoming Shows: March 2 and March 17 Message-ID: Dear Friends, I wanted to let you know about some upcoming Stillhouse Bottom Band shows. Coming up real soon, on Thursday, March 2, we will have our debut performance at Chapel Hill's most renowned underground venue: The Cavern Tavern (http://www.caverntavern.com/). Located at 452-1/2 W. Franklin St, The Cave no longer allows smoking in its front room, where we'll be performing. I understand it's operating as a club, so there is a $5 membership fee, and maybe a small cover. I just don't know, and probably won't 'til I get there. On March 17, following fast on the heels of our Cave date, we are tickled to again be performing at the ArtsCenter (http://artscenterlive.org) in Carrboro as a part of their acclaimed American Roots Music Series. Tickets are $14, or $12 at the box office for ArtsCenter Friends. As usual tickets are available at the ArtsCenter box office (919-929-2787), through etix.com, and, of course, from any member of the band. I hope you can make it out to one or both of these performances. See you there, and don't forget to bring dancing shoes... There's something in the air about this one. We think we've got a show you'll really love. Tickets are $14, and I'd be delighted if you came. This is a special night for me - it's my comeback show at the ArtsCenter after surgery 6 months ago that removed a third of my liver. (Take it from me, everyone thinks someone else will get cancer - not them.) For me, this concert is a celebration of life, love and joy in doing what you love. I'm looking for an enthusiastic, happy conscious crowd that wants to have a wonderful time. I'd be honored if you could come. There still tickets left and should be the night of the show...and there are three ways you can get tickets now: 1. Call the ArtsCenter box office at 919-929-ARTS (929-2787) and order tickets by phone 2. Go online to etix.com to buy tickets (until 5pm tomorrow) 3. Call me at 919-932-3037 (or e-mail me)--I still have a few tickets left and I can leave them at the box office for you. I hope you can join us Friday night. Sincerely, A.C. Bushnell - fiddle PS - help us spread the word and forward this message if you can. PPS - Thanks so much for your support. I appreciate it even more than you know. From acbushnell at gmail.com Wed May 3 15:04:08 2006 From: acbushnell at gmail.com (Alan Bushnell) Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 11:04:08 -0400 Subject: [SBB] Message from AC Bushnell Message-ID: <2ffcf2320605030804rac94fd4p934a729cc11cb813@mail.gmail.com> Dear Friend, Let me tell you a quick story. As you know, I play the fiddle, and a couple of years ago I was at the Mt. Airy Fiddlers Convention. It was two in the morning, and I was walking with a friend when we came upon the hottest session I ever heard in my life. It was David Bass on fiddle and Mark Olitsky on banjo along with a guitar and bass and it was so wonderful I couldn't believe it. I turned to my friend and said, "You know, the best stuff isn't on CD's!" The next morning I woke up early and suddenly felt a kind of whoosh -- I instantly knew that I could start a nonprofit organization and put out this music. My vision came fully formed -- I even knew what the first four projects were! So it was that I founded the Rising Tide Foundation (a National Heritage Foundation) to create, preserve and bring music into the word that otherwise wouldn't exist. At the same time Rising Tide gives artists their own CD with free copies to sell which helps them financially. They benefit and the world benefits. And good news?thanks to generous donations, the first Rising Tide Foundation CD has been recorded --- it's David Bass on fiddle, Mark Olitsky on bass, Charlie Pickford on guitar and Alex Scala on bass. David Bass was the fiddle player for The Freight Hoppers, and this is his first recording since that time and his first since he had a heart transplant. Mark Olitsky has never been recorded, and yet he is one of the very best banjo players in the country and greatly in demand at festivals. Charlie Pickford is a hard driving, excellent guitar player and Alex Scala, the bass player with The Hix, is top notch. It's vitally important that this uniquely American music be preserved. David Bass is one of the greatest old-time fiddle players of all time, now healthy and at his peak, and it would be a great loss to society and the nation if this wonderful music was not preserved. Copies of the completed CD will be donated to libraries across the country including the Southern Folklife Collection. This recording will be their ? and our ? legacy to the world. The band is called Killer Grits, the CD is called *Midnight on the Run* and it's great: straight ahead, high energy old time tunes that'll knock your socks off! It's been recorded, mixed and mastered so it's ready to roll?except: we're $2,100 short to finish the art and manufacture the CD. So I need your help?and here's an idea: - If you will send a tax-deductible donation of $25 or more to the Rising Tide Foundation (a National Heritage Foundation), I'll send you a free pre-release copy of the CD as soon as it's off the press. - If you send a donation of $100 or more, I'll send you a free pre-release copy of the CD along with a free bonus CD of 7 additional hot tracks in addition to the 18 that are on the CD. The bonus CD is available only to special donors who help this dream come true and will not be available to anyone else. - If you send a donation of $500 or more, you will receive both free CDs and be listed on the CD as an Executive Producer. We're almost there. If 84 of you send $25, or 21 of you send $100, or 4 of you send $550?we're there! Here's how you can help: 1. Send your tax-deductible donation in any amount ($25 or more if you want the free CD of *Midnight on the Run,* $100 or more if you want the free *Midnight on the Run* CD plus the 7 bonus tracks CD, and $500 or more if you want both CDs and you want to be an Executive Producer on the album). 1. Make your donation payable to "The National Heritage Foundation" and write "Rising Tide" in the memo area of your check. 1. Mail it to: The Rising Tide Foundation 460 Bayberry Drive Chapel Hill, NC 27517 That's it! I hope you will be able to support the dream of bringing great music into the world, preserving it and helping the artists. I'm grateful for your help. Sincerely, AC Bushnell (919) 932-3037 PS: Any monies raised in excess of the $2,100 or raised by sales of the Killer Grits CD will go towards the next Rising Tide project. PPS: If you can take a moment now to send a check, I'd be grateful. Thanks for your support.
